Dancing at the Del Mar Fair

Tatum's last dance activity of the year was performing at the Del Mar Fair. It was down on our level, not up on a stage, which was great for Ty because we pulled his stroller up to the edge and he watched in complete amazement. He loves dance and always wants to stay and dance with Tatum when I drop her off for her class. So to see all the dances and to see Tatum out there on the stage, he was so excited. He kept pointing and yelling, "Ta Ta, sissy Ta Ta!" and looking at us like we had no idea she was out there. It was pretty cute.

Here's a picture of Tatum with her friend Audrey, such cute little girls.

After the dance, we hit the kiddie fun zone and went on lots of rides. This was Tatum's favorite!

And it's hard to see him but here's Ty with Daddy on his first roller coaster. Oh my little man.

Yet again I'm going to mention how different these two kids seem to be. When Tatum was this age, or even a bit older, she was so timid and didn't want to try any of the rides. Ty couldn't wait to get on all of them and would cry when he wasn't tall enough to join Tatum. He loved this swing ride, so cute.

And as Oprah would say, this was an Aha moment because Tatum walked up this huge staircase dragging a potato sack and slid down this slide all by herself! I was so nervous and thought for sure she'd get up there and freak out. But nope, she loved it and actually wanted to go again. When she came down, I said, "Weren't you scared up there, it's so high?!" and she just looked at me and said, "No way Mommy, it was awesome!" My little baby is growing up.

Then we had to hit the games. I hate the games. The carnies kind of spook me out and I feel like the games are all rigged so you lose. Anyway, I tried to tell the kids we couldn't play them since we were out of tickets but Garrett quickly told Tatum that we didn't need tickets and we hit the duck fishing booth and then the booth where you can win a fish. Of course, there's a large sign at the fish booth that says to guarantee a fish, you pay $5 and they get the fish in the tank and 10 ping pong balls to throw into little bowls and attempt at winning another fish. As if anyone gets the bouncy ping pong ball in the little dish! Anyway, we came home with Goldie the fish, who lived a whopping 3 days. We had a funeral over the toilet and after it was all over, Tatum broke down bawling because she missed Goldie. The dreaded lesson of death. And for a week after, every time Ty would walk by the fish bowl, he'd hang his head and say, "Oh no." When you asked him where the fish went he'd point down the hall to the bathroom and say, "In the pee pee." :) We now have 3 new fish from Petco that have a 30 day warranty. :)

And it wouldn't be a proper trip to the fair without getting some horrible food. Tatum chose to have a chocolate covered corn dog. It was actually not as horrible as it sounds, but I think I was envisioning it looking like a frozen banana. All the hard chocolate covering the corn dog. Nope, it was a corn dog laying in a pool of dark chocolate with sprinkles. A complete mess and all together wrong. Better than the fried butter though, right? Garrett got a huge corn dog, as if we hadn't had enough of that, and I got the fried artichoke hearts which were pretty good. But after dinner, things got to be too much. Ty wouldn't get back in the stroller and wanted to run from booth to booth. The fair was getting crowded since it was nearing 5:00 pm on a Friday. And we were out of money. Bye Bye fair and I hope to get through a few years before we have to visit you again. :)
