Family Hike

We hadn't gone on a family hike for a long time and there's a large cross on a hill close to Grandma's house in San Diego, so we decided to pack up a lunch, get our hiking shoes on, and tackle the trail.

Tatum's pumped and ready to go!

The hike wasn't long, I think it took us about 15 minutes or so.  The sky was so clear, not a cloud in site, a beautiful hiking day.

We made it!  We tried to find Grandma's house from up there.  A bit too hard but she's down there somewhere.

The strong boys. :)

The capable girls. :)

It was a pretty hot day so Ty stripped his shirt off.  I love that you can see the cross in Garrett's sun glasses in this picture.  It was really big when we got up close to it.

And then, after our picnic, it was time to head back down the mountain.  By cross!

After some Popsicles, we decided we could do some more hiking, so we went to Poway Lake.

At first we thought we'd just go around by the boat rentals and call it a day...

but the kids were up for more hiking, so we kept following the trail.  There they go!

Along the hike, we saw these turtles in a tree hanging over the water.  Just doing some sun bathing.

We also found this cool bridge to jump on!  Not far from here, the kids started getting tired, and we saw a trail across the top of the damn.  When we got over there, we realized it was not a trail and we weren't to walk across the damn, but the other trail led down a steep hill and around, it would have taken a long time to get back to the other side of the lake and to our car.  We broke the law and all ran for it!  It was fun and then we had to scale a fence to get back over to the trail.  Oh, the craziness!

And the reward at the end of the day, playing at the park at Poway Lake.  The kids said this was the best day ever, and it really was.  It's amazing how big the kids are getting and how fun it is to do family things like this together.  We better cherish every minute because before we know it, these little people will be big people and hanging with parents on a Sunday might not be their first choice. :)
